Blue Yonder, a leading provider of end-to-end integrated retail and supply chain planning software, has been modernising its global office portfolio, embracing a design philosophy that combines its US-based design palette with local elements. For the Milan office, located in Energy Park Building 4, Area was tasked with creating a contemporary workspace that reflects Blue Yonder's innovative ethos while also catering to the specific needs of its European workforce.
Our brief was to craft a smart and functional office space that aligns with Blue Yonder’s existing design standards while introducing a European touch. Drawing from previous collaborations with Blue Yonder in London, Bracknell, Paris, and Hamburg, we had a well-established understanding of the company’s values and design approach, which was instrumental given the project's tight timeline.
One of the main challenges of the Milan project was optimising a relatively compact 4,000 sq ft space. Despite the size constraints, the office needed to comfortably accommodate the planned number of staff while providing various breakout and meeting areas. The goal was to foster a sense of openness and community, essential to Blue Yonder's collaborative work culture.
The office features an open-plan design, which maximises the use of space and creates an inviting environment. This layout not only supports efficient staff accommodation but also enhances communication and collaboration among employees.
Recognising the need for both formal and informal work settings, we incorporated several 'pockets' for meetings, casual conversations, and quiet work. These spaces are strategically placed to provide flexibility and meet the diverse needs of the staff.
To bring energy and vibrancy into the workspace, the design includes stylish contemporary furniture, cheerful colour accents, and distinctive features such as metal louvre ceilings and pendant luminaires. These elements add visual interest and reflect Blue Yonder's forward-thinking identity.
Existing washroom and shower facilities were upgraded to align with the modern, employee-focused environment. These enhancements contribute to the overall wellbeing of staff, which is a priority for Blue Yonder.
Situated within the Energy Park campus, a hub known for its commitment to sustainability, the Milan office benefits from the broader eco-friendly infrastructure. The campus is designed to be a dynamic and people-centric environment, promoting innovation and wellbeing. This setting complements Blue Yonder’s values, aligning with their global sustainability goals.
The Milan office for Blue Yonder successfully merges the company's established design language with local Italian elements, resulting in a workspace that is both functional and inspiring. By overcoming the challenges of space and time, Area delivered a project that not only meets but exceeds the expectations, providing Blue Yonder with a workplace that supports its cutting-edge operations and enhances employee wellbeing.
