Area to deliver next-generation workplace for Databricks in Amsterdam

Area is delivering a new 13,000 sqm workplace for Databricks in Amsterdam, located at The Rock on Gustav Mahlerlaan. The project supports Databricks’ continued growth across the region.

Databricks works with over 20,000 customers to build AI applications and agents on enterprise data. The expanded Amsterdam office will support long-term talent growth, regional collaboration, and customer engagement.

Area has been appointed to deliver a full workplace design and fit-out solution. The team is working in close partnership with project managers JAC to provide a joined-up, strategy-to-delivery approach.

A workplace designed for scale and flexibility

Databricks’ expansion in Amsterdam requires a workplace that can support a growing mix of engineering, product, and cross-functional teams. Area’s approach focuses on flexibility and future capacity, allowing the environment to adapt as the business evolves.

“The concept for the Amsterdam workplace was shaped around scalability and clarity,” said Samantha Sarl, Creative Director at Area. “As a company pioneering AI applications and agents, the design needed to support deep technical work, collaboration, and client engagement, while remaining flexible as teams evolve. We’ve created a workplace that feels distinctly Databricks, while also reflecting the energy and openness of Amsterdam.”

The workplace will include a range of spaces for collaboration, focused work, and social interaction. Area’s integrated procurement and design-build model reduces complexity, speeds up decision-making, and maintains quality throughout the project.

Customer-focused, brand-led design

The new workplace includes front-of-house and meeting environments designed to support client interaction, technical discussions, and partner engagement.

The design balances Databricks’ global identity with local character, creating a consistent experience across its international locations while giving the Amsterdam office a clear sense of place.

Area’s role is to translate Databricks’ long-term ambitions into a workplace that supports continued growth, strong collaboration, and a consistent brand experience.

“Our focus has been to deliver a flexible, future-ready environment that supports Databricks’ expansion in the region and gives teams a workplace they can grow into,” said Lee Day, Managing Director, Area International.
