In a move to better support the rapid adoption of cloud computing in Turkey, our client – a leading multinational technology company – required a new Istanbul workplace to provide a hub for their web services cloud team and growing customer base within the region. Although our client had been serving its Turkish customer base via its German website, and with a local team based out of a temporary serviced office, they required a new space to support their rapid growth, providing an inspiring and creative destination for their employees.
Spread across two floors with the River Plaza complex, our client wanted a workplace environment suited to the dynamic nature of their business. The design scheme needed to address specific factors such as security, a ‘new way of working’ strategy, reflect our clients energetic and expressive brand identity as well as promote the local Turkish culture.
Working in collaboration with The Instant Group, Area facilitated various ‘co-design workshops’ with the project team resulting in a concept design focused on a ‘shared neighbourhood’, with a flow and transition from different working environments. This project was an opportunity to develop a new way of working using the principles of Activity Based Working (ABW). This shift propelled the Istanbul-based team forward, created a workplace that is open and connected with greater collaboration and communication.
Walking through the security gates is one of several breakout spaces, designed to be easily adapted to meet the diverse requirements of their team, encouraging socialisation and creating collaboration settings to get people away from their desk. Employee experience and wellbeing were key drivers for this project – with every desk adjustable to a standing position at the push of a button, multi-faith prayer rooms, nursing rooms and meditation spaces for relaxation. The contemporary and quirky open-plan design features inspirational quotes to promote innovative thinking.
This inspiring workplace in Turkey speaks to the rapidly growing web services customer base, the extensive talent and the investments our client is making to support cloud adoption in the country. We are thrilled to continue our close working relationship, driving innovation for their organisation through workplace transformation. Our ability to provide global, collaborative and transparent design and construction services was key in delivering our client’s vision.
