Lenovo is a Chinese multinational technology company well known for its extensive range of PCs, laptops, tablets, servers and mobile phones. The company wished to consolidate its UK accommodation into its existing building in Chineham Park, Basingstoke, Hampshire.
Lenovo are currently rolling out a worldwide programme of agile and flexible working spaces which, along with new branding guidelines, they wished to incorporate into this space. This would include a new reception, customer demonstration suite and a full staff restaurant. Budget restraints required a creative approach to reuse and specification of fixtures and finishes, whilst ensuring that the overall result matched corporate expectations.
We worked closely with Lenovo’s real estate team to ensure that the global workplace objectives were correctly interpreted and included into the new environment. The space was divided into neighbourhoods, with individual and communal breakout and meeting areas indespersed between them.
To address budgetary requirements, a very high proportion of furniture, partitions, carpet, ceiling and network cabling were reused, saving approximately 20% of the overall spend, and ensuring that the environmental credentials of the project were among the very best.
Much thought went into the rebranding, which is expressed by vibrant use of colour and graphics. The overall impression is energetic and engaging, with numerous lively elements such as quirky ceiling features, playful breakout chairs, multicoloured storage lockers and bold, arresting imagery. The showroom area is slick and uncluttered, its calm neutral tones offset by the bright red branding and a tactile moss wall.
James Cornwell, Project Director at Area commented, “To ensure that we achieved the dynamic workplace required, the Real estate team, and JLL their project managers, were keen to explore alternative and unconventional ways of achieving the best solution incorporating the new branding material, staff agility, and creating a great place to work”.
