The brief

Causeway sought to establish a workplace that seamlessly aligned with the look and feel of their existing offices across the UK and Ireland, while embracing the distinctive characteristics of the Liverpool locale. Inspired by the industrial heritage of the Seacombe Smalt Works, the design aimed to incorporate a deep blue cobalt hue throughout the space, reflecting the site's historical significance.

Our team approached this project with a clear vision in mind. We aimed to create a fresh and modern workplace design that would transcending fleeting trends and stand the test of time. By infusing the space with natural innovation, we aimed to foster an atmosphere of creativity and productivity. At the same time, our focus on privacy and acoustics ensured a harmonious and productive work environment.

Our solution

The moment you step into Causeway’s new office, you are greeted by a vibrant and inviting environment. The arrival area is more than just a tea point or breakout space; it’s a hub for socialising, brainstorming, and unwinding. The colour and material palette were carefully considered to reflect a fun and energetic atmosphere, setting the tone for collaboration and relaxation.

Liverpool heritage
Celebrating the location was a key aspect of our design. We wanted to create a sense of connection and pride among employees by incorporating elements that pay tribute to the unique heritage and cultural significance of the area.

To pay homage to the local region and emphasise the strong ties between Liverpool and the Wirral, we incorporated a large map of northwest England within the office space, serving as a visual reminder of the geographical connection between these two regions, fostering a sense of unity and belonging among employees.

Infusing the space with Liverpool’s cultural heritage, is a large mural of Liverpool’s most iconic and beloved band in the breakout area, The Beatles. The artwork incorporates the lyrics to their timeless song, "Strawberry Fields Forever”, serving as a reminder of the city’s musical legacy and its vibrant artistic spirit.

Sustainability was a key consideration of this project. As a certified B Corp and SBTi verified company, we embed environmental and sustainable practices into everything we do, and we understand the importance of creating a workspace that not only promotes productivity and aesthetics but also demonstrates a strong commitment to environmental responsibility.

We ensured that sustainability was seamlessly integrated into various aspect of the design of Causeway’s new workplace, by consciously selecting materials and products. To minimise our environmental footprint, we used fabrics made from 100% recycled post-consumer plastics and ocean plastics, and the selected ergonomic chairs are produced using a minimum of 75% recycled content. The coffee tables in the breakout area are made from recycled white goods, giving new life to materials that would have otherwise been discarded. Similarly, the breakout chairs were crafted from 100% recycled plastics and wood fibre, ensuring that valuable resources are reused, and waste generation is minimised.

All wood used in the design has been sourced from FSC Certified suppliers, meaning that the material comes from responsibly managed forests, promoting biodiversity, and ensuring the livelihoods of local communities. The lounge chairs in the office were produced using 80% recycled content and are 99% recyclable, which not only reduces waste but also allows for future recycling and repurposing of materials.

We’ve also incorporated PET Felt products into the design, made from post-consumer PET (polyethylene terephthalate) that does not contain any lead or tin, and emits no volatile organic compounds (VOC), promoting a healthier environment.

As Causeway’s sales hub and centre of excellence in the north, the new office at Wirral Waters provides a great place to work with excellent facilities for our growing team."
